WELCOME!   BIENVENUE!  TO STROUD FRENCH CONNECTIONS

Please have a look around our website to learn more about our twin town, St.Ismier, our twinning association and how you can become involved.
We are always very pleased to welcome new members, who want to learn more about the French way of life and can contribute fresh ideas and contacts to our organization. A pdf download of our membership form is available from this site.

Stroud is twinned with St.Ismier, a village in the Isère department of France, just outside Grenoble.

The twinning was started in 2004, and we try to encourage all types of links between the two.

There have been visits, both group and individual, and we are currently trying to widen the exchanges by encouraging local groups to make contact with St.Ismier, and arrange visits.

Local schools have had penfriend schemes in progress for some time, and, this summer will see a visit by the Stroud Ramblers to the Chartreuse Park , and enjoying a reception from the Mairie and people of St.Ismier. Later in the year, preparation starts for a visit by the Rodborough Youth Project, which will be sponsored by Stroud French Connections, to try to involve some of Stroud’s younger age group in the twinning process.

Please spend some time looking at our photo gallery and other information to learn about St.Ismier and some of the background to the twinning.

We look forward to meeting you!

Twinning Signs
Our partners in St.Ismier moved rapidly with physical signs of their commitment to our twinning and errected road signs proclaiming their pride. Stroud's signs are now in place, along with 'St. Ismier Corner', at the junction of London Road and Cornhill.

Events
As a twinning organisation, we are keen to set up events that will promote the twinning, increase awareness of St. Ismier, and help people to meet and enjoy learning about the French way of life. We want to include all ages, and actively encourage participation of clubs, sports associations and schools. To date, we have put on French language classes, enjoyed French meals at a local restaurant, played skittles at a local pub, and put children in contact with pen-friends in St. Ismier.
