On
Goodwill Evening, some year 6 children from Stroud Valley Primary
School stood at the front of St Laurence Church, near the twinning
tree and sang a few carols, two of them in French. Their class teacher,
Sarah Roberts, had arranged this and was supported by members of
staff and parents, who came to listen. The children had learnt the
carols in their French lessons and practised them with Mrs Roberts. |

| Carole
Oosthuysen,
a committee member with responsibility for schools and French teacher
at Stroud Valley, was invited by Revd Barry Coker to say a few
words about the twinning before offering the children traditional French
sweets called ‘papillotes’. These had been kindly sent from
St Ismier by Régine Bernard. Inside each sweet wrapper was a French saying
or proverb, which added to the fun. |
